Family Discovery Day

I was on the Family Discovery Day committee this year.  I was surprised at how much fun it was.  We had such a great turnout and the decorations were awesome.  Our theme was Learn it, Live it, Love it.  We decorated like Old London. It really got me excited to do some kind of family history work. We had all kinds of displays and classes that talked about different ways to do family history.

We had this guy dress up like an ancestor and talk about a story that happened to the ancestor he dressed up as.

We had great food and help that made it so we didn't even have to worry about the food.

I worked at one of the registration tables

Carol was our chairman.  She always does so great.

Different displays

I had people write stories and testimonies down that they had received from doing family history.

First Day!

Jon finally got a job with a regular schedule and one that he loves.  He Started a new job at Central Washington Comprehensive Mental Health as a custodian/maintenance worker out in Gleed at one of the group homes.  He loves it.  His first day was Sept 8th.  He was so excited.  The best part is he has the best schedule.  He works Monday-Friday from 7-4.  It is so much fun to see him so much more at home.  I wake up with him every morning, make him breakfast and then we get dinner together every night.  It is so great spending so much more time with him.

His first day!

Labor Day Weekend

This weekend was a full weekend of Labor.  We had been buying supplies and saving for several months and decided to redo our kitchen floor.  I was tired of the old dirty laminate flooring, and found this tile at Costco that I loved.  Labor day weekend worked for us to do the floor, because Jon had just quit his job and wasn't starting the new one until after the holiday.  We had some friends that has done a lit of tile, so we asked them if they would help us, and they were more than happy to help.

This is what our floor looked like before.

First we had to take out appliances and baseboards.

I had the privilege of taking out the old floor.  Jon left for a game, so that is what I got to do while he was gone.

First battle scar

This was some of the hardest work I have ever done.  That floor was down so good, I was sore the next day.

We had some dry rot underneath where the stove and dishwasher were, so we had to cut out the floor and replace it.  Thankfully Lynn Dietrick had all the tools that we needed.

Measuring for the new floor.

Lynn showing us how to use the saw.

Then I wanted to get down and do it.  I loved it. It was so fun to saw through the floor.

Holding the cord so we don't cut through it.

Taking out the bad floor

Cutting out the plywood to replace the floor

Laying down Hardy board before putting down mortar and tiles.

They had to screw it all down before we could do the tile work.

Figuring out our pattern for the floor and fine tuning any little cuts we need to do.

Jon learning to use the Tile saw.  He rocked.  It was so fun to watch him cut such precise cuts with the tile saw.

Putting down the tile!

It looks so great!

Putting down the grout  I did help in all of this.  I was just the only one taking pictures, so there are no pictures of me.

The floor is finished!  I love it!  It was such hard work, but it really makes me appreciate it that much more.  It was such a learning experience for Jon and me.  He had so much fun with Dietricks as we learned to do something new to improve our house.

Monday afternoon we went down to Grandview for a BBQ to celebrate the holiday.  It was nice to see family and visit for a little bit.
